The Snow Crab is a Chilean product, caught and packed for Wild Oceans by Snowland – the largest producer of Chilean Snow Crabs. 100% of Snowland’s Chilean Snow Crabs are wild-caught.
The Chilean Snow Crab has thick legs , and a round carapace. Males can grow up to 16.5cm in carapace width, while females are smaller, reaching about 9.5cm.
Known for its white meat and sweet flavour, the Chilean Snow Crab is a popular seafood delicacy.
Snowland uses advanced, specialised processing, cooking and freezing equipment, to enhance product quality, ensure uniform cooking, and maintain moisture and flavour.
Sustainability & Management
The Chilean Snow Crab fishery is entirely managed by the governing body for all fishing activity in Chile, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca).
Under the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, Sernapesca is also responsible for enforcing policies related to species protection and environmental sustainability. Capture and landings are tightly controlled under these strict standards and policies.
Chilean Snow Crabs are caught only by artisanal fishermen with restricted catch licences, usually in combination with the larger Chilean King Crab. Taking female crabs is strictly prohibited.
Amongst other compliance certifications, Snowland operates under HACCP rules and is authorised to export to China, the European Union and US markets.
