Panulirus argus & Panulirus laevicauda

Often valued the most amongst the Caribbean lobsters when sold as raw tails in the US market, the Brazilian Lobster is tender and sweet.

The Brazilian Lobster has two sub-species:

  1. Panulirus argus argus; and
  2. Panulirus argus westoni.

Although very similar, the sub-species may vary in shell colour (from pink/purple to light green), depending on the environment.

100% of all Brazilian Lobsters sold by Wild Oceans are wild-caught.

Sustainability & Management

The Brazilian Lobster fishery is one of the largest spiny lobster fisheries in the world.

It incorporates small artisanal fishers and mid – large sized industrial boats.

In recent years, extensive efforts have been made to improve the fishery management. Most lobsters are now delivered in live condition to the plants, supported by an increasing network of recirculating tank systems along the coast to maintain premium conditions prior to receival at processing locations.

Brazil is now the largest producer of whole frozen Caribbean lobster.
