Panulirus argus

Commonly known as Caribbean lobster, Belizean lobster is a popular seafood delicacy known for its delicate, sweet flavour and soft texture.

The approximate catch of the Caribbean species is between 30,000 – 40,000mt annually. As a warm water species, it is also one of the fastest growing and reaches maturity at 2-3 years.

Historically, Belizean Lobster was only sold in the form of lobster tails, however a greater percentage of lobsters are now being delivered in premium live condition, making them available for production as Whole frozen or even as Live export.

100% of all Belizean Lobsters sold by Wild Oceans are wild-caught.

Sustainability & Management

Unlike neighbouring Caribbean lobster fisheries, Belize has strong regulations to support artisanal fishing which prohibits industrial boat fishing and freezing at sea. Other regulations enforced to protect divers include the ban of SCUBA fishing in the Belize fishery. This encourages the safer hookah or free- dive practices.
